AxD Gallery Celebrates the Male Form with SKIN

Exhibition Open Equality Forum Weekend

(Philadelphia, PA) AxD Gallery is proud to present SKIN: The Photography of Joe Bowman, a celebration of the male nude form. This solo show features over 40 of the latest work of fashion and fine art photographer Joe Bowman. SKIN opens during Equality Forum week, with a reception on Friday, May 2nd at AxD Gallery on 265 South 10th Street, from 5PM to 8PM. The Gallery will be open both Saturday and Sunday of Equality Forum weekend from Noon to 6PM. The exhibition continues through Saturday, May 31st

Joe has created photographic artwork for more than 35 years. His talent in the field of photography has encompassed fashion, portraiture, fine arts, and interiors -- rarely falling squarely within a single genre. His portraits sometimes evoke fashion, his fashion photos often create a specific sense of time and place unique to the image, and his fine art nudes posses a sculptural spontaneity and erotic charge while conveying a sense of timeless precision.

Joe Bowman commented on his career: “My interest in photography was inspired after I married a professional model and began photographing her. I have always had an interest in fashion photography and am self taught. I've had a successful career as a commercial photographer in advertising shooting for magazines, ads, catalogs and portraits of celebrities. In a world concerned about health, fitness, and beauty I have progressed from a fashion mindset to a fine arts view of nudity.”

On SKIN’s opening coinciding with the Equality Forum, Joe commented: “As a gay man SKIN depicts not only eroticism but an interpersonal sensitivity of my subjects, most of whom have been part of the Philadelphia gay community for years. I celebrate the Equality Forum. Photography is my first love!”
